JOINT PRESS RELEASE FROM THE PUBLIC PROSECUTORS OFFICE AND KPSM

On Friday, September 25th 2015 representatives from the Public Prosecutors Office and members from the Police Force (KPSM), including the Chief Prosecutor Ton Maan and the Police Chief Peter de Witte, met at the Philipsburg Police Station for an urgent meeting regarding the increase in robbery’s and other gun related crimes recently.

Both law enforcement agencies also expressed their concern about yesterday’s gunfire against police officers, especially with the recent killing of officer Benjamin in mind. This cannot be tolerated and every effort needs to be made to protect the people of Sint Maarten. One of the measurements discussed is an intensification of the zero tolerance strategy against illegal gun possession. Further joint measurements are being worked on and executed as soon as possible.
