Armed robbery suspect arrested
A suspect in the daylight armed robbery of Helena Jewelers in Philipsburg on July 24th 2015, was arrested on Wednesday October 21 at approximately 07.30 p.m. The arrest took place without incident on the L.B. Scot road. The male suspect in his early twenties was taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where he remains in custody for further investigation.
Attempted armed robbery
The Special Robbery Unit of the Police Department is presently investigating an attempted armed robber at the Starz Casino located in the Cupe Coy Area. The incident took place on Saturday October 24th at approximately 06.20 p.m. The call came in to the Emergency Dispatch who immediately sent several police patrols to investigate what had taken place. On the scene the officers spoke to the victims and several witnesses. According to the information that was gathered is that one young man with a handgun threatened two employees with his weapon and demanded money from them. When the robbers noticed that he was unsuccessful in het attempt he fled the scene. A search of the area was done however the suspect in this case was not located.
Fines for egg throwers
For the last few years many students, bus drivers and other persons have been complaining about youngster/students, who during the end of the moth of October when Halloween is celebrated, become victims of egg throwing. The throwing of eggs can destroy your clothing; it can be very dangerous and hazardous to your health. The police department and the public prosecutors office have contacted mainly the secondary schools to inform them of the campaign they have started to prevent and suppress this type of irresponsible behavior. Anyone caught throwing eggs will be arrested and taken to the police station and go through the normal procedures. Those persons could get a fine ranging from 150, – and up to 500, – guilders. Next to that, all damages caused as a result of the throwing of eggs, will also have to be covered by the suspect. Schools were advised to inform their students about this ongoing campaign and parents are hereby urged to have a very serious talk with their kids regarding this very serious issue. Police located numerous stolen vehicles
Based on a tip, the police department is presently busy investigating in case regarding numerous stolen vehicles. This tip led the investigating officers, on Friday October 23rd at approximately 04.00 p.m., to a garage located on the Bush road. During the investigation 19 vehicles were located which are probably stolen. Several patrols were sent to the scene to assist in this investigation. Thus far five persons have been arrested as suspect in this investigation. All the vehicles in question along with a large amount of vehicle parts were confiscated and taken to a safe location for further investigation. Several towing trucks were called in the to assist in the transporting of these vehicles.
