Man shot and killed in Middle Region
The Police Department is presently investigating a shooting on Middle Region road which took place on Tuesday November 24th at approximately 09.00 p.m. leaving one person dead. The call came into the Emergency Dispatch Center who immediately directed police patrols to investigate what had taken place. On the scene the investigating officers encountered man lying on the ground bleeding from several gunshot wounds and who was not showing any signs of life. The paramedics arrived on the scene, but they were unsuccessful saving the victims life.
The victim has been identified as R.G. and is well-known by the police. The crime scene was immediately closed off and traffic on Middle Region road was diverted. The Detectives and Forensic Department arrived shortly after and started talking to witnesses and collecting evidence. Dr. Douglas also arrived on the scene and pronounced the death of the victim.
The investigation is in its preliminary stage and it is still unclear what exactly happen, why and who the person or persons are that are responsible for this act.
The Police Department is asking anyone who may have any information that can shed some light on the investigation and help solve this case, to come forward and share this information. The numbers to call are the police tip line # 9300, 54-22222.

Security controls
In light of the recent terrorist attack in France and with the high alert the French President Holland has issued for all French territories, the authorities on the Dutch Side of Sint Maarten has decided as a precautionary safety measure to also increase their security at major points of entry to the island such as, airport and harbor. Joint controls by the Customs, Immigration and Border Protection Service and Police Department at the border crossings between both sides of the island will be part of this plan of approach. All other critical infrastructures on the island are advised to heighten their security at their location and to report any suspicious situations or persons they may encounter to the Police Department. These security measures will continue indefinitely.
