Sint Maarten police report December 28th 2015

Police receive numerous reports of ill-treatment

The Police Department is presently investigating numerous reports of ill-treatment and threats which took place over the Christmas Holiday weekend.

One incident took place on December 26th (Boxing Day) on the Goldfinch road in Point Blanche where the male suspect injured the male victim by hitting him with an iron in his head. The incident was between the ex- and present boyfriend of a female living at that home. The situation had seriously gotten out of hand and the police was immediately called in. The suspect fled the scene before the police arrived.

One other incident also took place on December 26th at a home on Ark Shell road in Guana Bay after the male suspect (67) struck his female partner in her face during a heated discussion. The victim suffered a swollen right jaw and a hematoma under her right eye. The situation got escalated when the two male friends visiting the victim attacked the suspect. The two visiting friends managed to hold the suspect until the arrival of the police who arrested him on the spot. The suspect was taken to the police station for further investigation.

Female stabbed in her home

The police department is presently investigating a stabbing incident which took place on December 28th at approximately 06.00 a.m. at a home Back Street. According to report is that the female victim was attacked by an intruder after he had gained access to the house. When the suspect realized he was caught he pulled a knife and attacked the female stabbing her numerous times and demanding money from her. When suspect realized he did not succeed he fled the scene. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and then taken to the Medical Center for further treatment where she remains in stable condition and for observation.

Numerous traffic accidents under investigation

The Police Traffic department is presently investigating more than twenty five reported traffic accidents which took place over the Christmas Holiday weekend. Ten of these accidents were with personal injuries. Many of these accidents were due to drivers not paying attention and not abiding by the traffic rules.

The police department is taking this opportunity to inform all drivers that traffic during the Holiday Season has been very busy and that they should pay keen attention when operating a vehicle. Do not drive while under the influence of alcohol and make sure that your vehicle is in good working condition. Make sure that you have your drivers’ license with you at all time and that all documentation for your vehicle is in order. If you are involved in a traffic accident do not leave the scene (hit and run)before the police arrive.
