Fire destroys several dwellings in Marigot

MARIGOT–At least two families, maybe more, escaped with their lives when some interconnecting wood and zinc roof dwellings went up in flames in St. James, Marigot, on Saturday afternoon.

The fire started directly behind buildings on the main road opposite the Green Dragon Chinese Restaurant on Rue de Hollande around midday and quickly turned into an inferno.

The Fire Brigade responded with two trucks. Getting access to the fire was not straight forward, as firemen had to thread their hoses through narrow alleys to reach the shacks located in a very confined space with other houses in close proximity to the fire.
