8th Annual Captain Oliver’s Regatta 19 & 20 May 2012
Captain Oliver’s Regatta offers you a fabulous weekend of entertainment and racing at Captain Oliver’s Resort in Oyster Pond, with three days of fun and action packed sailing presented by Coors Light as the main sponsor and partner of the event. Aside from the sailing, visitors can enjoy the ambiance at the waterfront facilities at Captain Oliver’s Resort where the marina becomes alive.
The sails of the first regatta were hoisted in 2005 by Olivier Lange, better known as Captain Oliver, for local sailors from St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Barths and Anguilla. Since then it has become a yearly returning 3-day event scheduled in mid-May, featuring, Racing Monohull, Bareboat, Performance Monohull, Cruising Monohull, Racing Multihull, Cruising Multihull, Beachcat and the 1-Design Class. The event is kept intimate with the organizing committee aiming at approximately 40 entries.
The regatta always attracts local sailors from both the French and Dutch side of the island, as well as neighbouring Anguilla and St. Barths. Regional sailors enjoying the Caribbean racing circuit can benefit from special rates at Captain Oliver’s Marina for longer stays, and sailors from afar can enter the race by booking one of our package deals in the 1-Design Class, on a 36’ Jenneau chartered from Sunsail. This class also appeals to our local sailors, who have the crew, but not the boat.
The courses for this year’s regatta will be the traditional course Around-the-Island scheduled for Saturday and Sunday’s course will be set in the St. Barths Channel. On Saturday, after racing there will also be a spectator-friendly Optimist Racing in the entrance of Oyster Pond Lagoon for our young aspiring sailors.
With Coors Light presenting the Regatta, the picturesque surroundings of the Marina and the great atmosphere at Captain Oliver’s Restaurant, the 8th Annual Captain Oliver’s Regatta is guaranteed to live up to its theme “La Joie de Vivre” – providing a weekend of great entertainment and festivity – On Water and On Land.
