Sint Maarten : Armed robbery

On Thursday August 29th at approximately 08.40 a.m. several police patrol and detectives were sent to Island Finance on the Walter Nisbet road (Pond fill road) to investigate an armed robbery that occurred shortly before.

On the scene the investigating officers learnt that three armed men, dressed in dark clothing and their face covered had stormed into the establishment. One of them attacked the security guard, striking him in face causing an injury and holding him hostage.

The other two jumped behind of the counter and demanded money from the employees and threatening them. The robbers took a very small amount of cash. After committing their act the robbers fled the scene. The paramedics were also called t the scene to treat the security guard and traumatized employees.

A possible suspect in this case was arrested in the Philipsburg area shortly after. The Detectives from the Special Robbery Unit are investigating.
