240913-MYS2013“We have to keep on top of our game.  St. Maarten is a destination for mega-yachts and we have to monitor the growth of the sector along with the trends and be a part of this development in order for our destination to continue to grow in this area.  Growth in this area benefits the economy positively with spinoff for various businesses including the creation of employment and revenues for the government.

“We are committed to put the right strategies in place to make sure we continue to receive the yachting business.  We need to know from A to Z about the yachting sector in order to remain competitive.

“The Lagoon Authority has been in touch with all stakeholders and has an excellent working relationship with the marine trades sector which are our partners.  One has to continue to look at the infrastructure in the Simpson Bay Lagoon and look at improving the management of the lagoon in the interest of all in order to continue to grow the yachting business.

“Much has been accomplished after the harbor group took over the Lagoon Authority a few years ago, and we can proudly say there is more awareness and a clear strategy will be put into place in order to deal with the challenges,” Port of St. Maarten Chief Executive Officer Mark Mingo said on Tuesday.
