Sint Maarten. Thieves caught in the act and flee the scene
On Saturday December 22nd at approximately 05.00 a.m. several police patrols were directed to Star Ocean Supermarket to investigate a break-in.
On arrival on the scene the investigating officers saw several unknown men jumping out a window located on the side of the building and took off in de darkness running through the bushes.
During the investigation the officers a grey colored Caravan with the license plate M-3275 hidden in the bushes. The driver of that vehicle had also fled the scene on foot. The vehicle in question was parked with cases of Heineken Beer and several other boxes filled with different type alcohol drinks. This vehicle was immediately confiscated for further investigation and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station.
As the investigation continued on the inside of the building the officers noticed that the culprits had already prepared several boxes with merchandise to take from the store. The Detective and Forensic Department arrived on the scene to search for evidence.
A welding and burning torch, acetylene and oxygen bottles and other items that can be used to commit these type of acts were found and also confiscated for further investigation. No arrests were made.
