Supermarket robbed.
The Special Robbery Unit is presently investigating an armed robbery at the Lucky Star Supermarket located in Dutch Quarter. The incident took place on Tuesday March 25th at approximately 08.15 p.m. at which time, two unknown suspects, both dressed in dark clothing entered the establishment. One of the suspects was armed with a very sharp object and threatened the cashier and ordered him to open the cash register. The other suspect was on the look out during the robbery. An unknown amount of cash was taken from the cash register and a several phone cards were also stolen. After committing this act the suspects fled the scene on foot.
Robbery suspect arrested.
The Special Robbery Unit, after a prolonged investigation, has arrested a suspect in the robbery of the owners of the L’Escargo restaurant, which took place on October 26th 2012. The 26 year old man with initials F.L. has been incarcerated for further investigation.
No incidents during Causeway Jump-Up.
The Police Department wants to congratulate the Sint Maarten Carnival Development Foundation for a well organized “Cause Way Jump up”. The event which started on time and finished on time was well attended by many revelers and spectators. Congratulations also go out to the entire community who conducted themselves in a very festive and orderly manner. There were no incidents of violence reported; however two persons were taken to the Simpson bay Police station to be reprimanded. Thanks also go out to the Coast Guard and Sint Maarten Sea Rescue who showed the presence in the Simpson Bay Lagoon while the Jump-up passed through the area.
Motorcycle collides with private vehicle
The police traffic department is presently investigating a serious traffic accident between a motorcycle and private car which took place on Sunday March 30th at approximately 04.00 p.m. on the crossing of L.B. Scot road and Gladiola road. According to witnesses the motorcycle with the French license plate 331 was traveling on the L.B. Scot road at a high speed as he approached the Gladiola road on which the private vehicle with license plate P-7601 was traveling. A collision between vehicles followed causing the rider to fall from the motorcycle. The paramedics arrived shortly on the scene and after giving the victim First Aid transported him in serious condition to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment.
