On Thursday evening at approximately 11.40 p.m. a phone call came in to the Police Central Dispatch (911) informing them that an unidentified male was brought into the emergency room at the Sint Maarten Medical center with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Immediately a police patrol was sent to the medical center to investigate what had happened. At the medical center the officers learnt that the victim was brought there by an unknown person driving in a dark colored car and drove away directly after. According to a witness the victim collapsed shortly after stepping out of the vehicle.
The victim was immediately taken to the Emergency Room where the doctors realized that the victim had been shot. The victim was immediately taken to the operation room to be operated on. In the meanwhile information reached the police department that the victim was involved in a shooting incident of the French Side. During the shooting two other persons were also shot and were taken to the hospital on the French side. Where and what the cause of the shooting is, is under by the French authorities.
At approximately 03.00 a.m. the police was informed by the staff of the medical center that the victim had died as a result of the wound he sustained.
The body of the victim was immediately confiscated for further investigation. The identity of the victim up to press time had not been established.
