Sint Maarten – Man dies as a result of a shooting incident
On Sunday September 14th around midnight Simpson Bay Police patrols, paramedics, Detectives and Forensic Department were sent to Aaron Jacobs drive in Cape Bay to investigate a shooting leaving one male victim injured.
On the way to the location, the investigating officers encountered a vehicle driving at very high speed leaving the area of the incident. The vehicle in question was stopped by the patrol and the female driver was questioned to the reason for driving in that manner. This is when the officers were informed that she was busy transporting the victim that was involved in the shooting shortly before, to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for treatment.
The investigating officers indeed saw the victim with the initials E.P.K. (26) who is very well-known by police in the vehicle and who was bleeding from a gun shot wound to the left side of his body. Paramedics, who had not yet arrived on the scene, took over the medical care of the victim on the Welfare road while he was being transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center by private vehicle.
When arriving at the hospital the medical staff immediately went to work in the attempt to save the victim’s life, but at approximately 12.25 a.m. he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty as a result of the wound he sustained. The body of the victim has been confiscated for further investigation.
The crime scene, in the meantime was closed off and the Forensic Department went on to collect evidence while the Detectives spoke to potential witnesses.
Two earlier reports filed by Simpson Bay police patrols stated that they had been called twice during the evening on Sunday to investigate a dispute involving the victim and another man which had become quite heated and whereby possibly a gun was involved.
At one point during the evening while investigating this case the patrol saw the victim walking through the area, but when he saw the police patrol he took off running through the dark and the narrow alleys. Witnesses stated that prior to this deadly shooting they heard an argument going on and also heard several shots being fired off.
Who fired the shots and why is under investigation by the Detective Department.
No suspect has been arrested in this case. Anyone who may have any information in connection with this case could contact the Police Department via the tip-line # 9300 or 54-22222.
