On Monday October 6th at approximately 08.00 p.m. police patrols from the Simpson Bay area were sent to an apartment building on the Welfare road to investigate a case involving an eleven month old infant that was not showing any signs of life.

On the scene the investigating officers spoke to the mother of the infant who stated that shortly before she had given her baby boy food and put him to rest on her bed. She then went to remove the laundry from the cloth lines. When she returned the baby was still lying on the bed. She then returned to go and fold the laundry and after doing so returned to check on her child.

This is when she noticed that the child was not lying on the bed anymore. She started searching the house for the child and when she opened the bathroom she saw her son motionless with his head in the toilet bowl. She took him out and tried to reanimate him without any success. She then informed the police what had taken place. The paramedics arrived on the scene and took over the reanimation.

The infant was then taken to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. On Tuesday October 7th the infant was being flown out to the Dominican Republic but unfortunately died 20 minutes after take off. The flight returned to Sint Maarten and the body of the infant was confiscate for further investigation.
