St. Maarten – Massive search at Point Blanche Prison
On Wednesday November 12th a massive search was carried at the Point Blanche Prison by members of the police department in collaboration with Dutch Marines, Customs Department, Immigration and Naturalization Department and the V.K.S.
This 40 man strong search team entered the Point Blanche Prison at approximately 07.00 a.m. and immediately began a general search of the facilities.
The reason for the search was to locate and confiscate any illegal fire-arms, other weapons, drugs and other illegal items. The search lasted until 04.00 p.m. on Wednesday. The search was done without resistance and with cooperation from the inmates.
During the search a large amount of illegal items such as, home machetes, knives, shanks, several small packs of compressed marihuana, home made tattoo machines, 25 cellular telephones and several telephone chargers were found and confiscated. Regular searches will be conducted in the near future.
