Dr. Pericás is a well-published Brazilian intellectual, historian, social critic, translator, and a guest of the 13th annual St. Martin Book Fair (June 4 – 6). “The pre-Book fair activity is geared to all interested persons and probably will attract more from the side of our business and political thinkers and leaders,” said Reiph.
The presentation will cause discussion about economic models in the region and will highlight some effects that the new USA-Cuba tourism and trade opening could have on business in St. Martin, said Reiph.
Pericás is the author of Che Guevara e o debate econômico em Cuba (Che Guevara and the economic debate in Cuba), published by Cambridge University Press.
Another pre-Book Fair activity, also on Wednesday at 6 pm, is the presentation and book signing of Dix jours au pays de la Négritude debout by Steve Gadet.
Gadet is a poet, hip hop artist, and university lecturer from Guadeloupe who works in Martinique. The book signing takes place at the Chamber of Commerce building in Spring Concordia, Marigot, said Reiph. This is Gadet’s second consecutive participation in the St. Martin Book Fair.
On Friday, during the visits by St. Martin writers and guest authors to some 18 schools throughout the Island, Gadet will speak with inmates about life issues, furthering their education, hip hop music, and literature, at the House of Detention in Pointe Blanche, said Reiph.
