Sint Maarten. Police Report

3 armed robberies

The Special Robbery Unit in busy investigating three armed robberies that have took place on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th of October. These robberies occurred at three Chinese supermarkets in Cole Bay.  One of these supermarkets was robbed on Friday and on Saturday at gunpoint. During these robberies small amounts of cash was taken. The owner of the other supermarket suffered an injury to his hand during the struggle to defend his establishment and was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Medical Center for further treatment.

Suspect arrested for illegal weapon possession

On Sunday morning October 27th at approximately 05.30 an eighteen year old male was arrested for the possession of an illegal fire-arm by a Simpson Bay police patrol after he was seen behaving quite suspicious in the vicinity of McDonalds in Simpson Bay. The patrol saw when this man threw away an object that he had, hidden under his shirt between the vehicles that were parked in the parking lot of McDonalds. The suspect was stopped by the police and when the investigating officers searched the area a double barrel handgun was found and confiscated. The suspect was arrested on the scene and taken to the Philipsburg police where he was held for questioning by the Detective Department.

Two suspects arrested for stealing car parts

Two men have been arrested by police in the Union farm area on Saturday October 26th at approximately 04.15 a.m. after they were caught in the act while removing parts from a silver colored Kia Picanto that was reported stolen. The tools that were used to remove the parts from the stolen vehicle and the vehicle itself were confiscated for further investigation. Another vehicle that the suspects used to transport the stolen parts was also confiscated for further investigation. None of these vehicles had documents to prove ownership. The suspects 19 and 20 years old were arrested on the spot and are being held for questioning by the Detective Department.

Man suffers heart attack at Mullet Bay Beach.

On Sunday October 27th at approximately 01.00 p.m. police patrols were directed to Mullet Bay beach were a tourist that arrived on the island with the cruise vessel Norwegian Sun had became ill and was not showing any signs of life. On the scene paramedics tried to reanimate the victim but he without success. The male victim a Canadian national was pronounced dead by a medical doctor who stated that the victim had died from a heart attack. According to witnesses the victim was coming out of the sea at which time he became ill. The body of the victim was transported to the morgue. The wife of the victim will make arrangements for body to be transported back home.
