Sint Maarten. Shooting and Stabbing in Dutch Quarter
On Thursday, January 23rd between 12.00 and 12.15 a.m. police patrols and Detectives were sent to the A.Th. Illidge road in Lower Princess Quarter for a shooting.
On the scene the investigating officers spoke to a man known to the police as “Flamingo”. Flamingo was bleeding from a wound in his upper right arm and stated that he had just left his home on his scooter to go out for a while. Just as he was to ride onto the A.Th. Illidge road, he was attacked by several men who opened gun fire at him. One of the shots hit him in his upper right arm fracturing it and caused him to fall from his scooter. He immediately got up and ran for cover in the nearby bushes. The suspects took off on foot. “Flamingo” further stated that he did not identify any of these men or what the reason was for the attack. “Flamingo” was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.
Directly after this incident the police and detectives were again sent to Dutch Quarter in Quillitor drive to investigate a stabbing. On the scene the investigating officers spoke to the victim identified as A. who stated that he had an argument with another man which got out of hand. The man in question then stabbed him twice to the back of his head. After committing this act the suspect left the scene. A was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.
These incidents are not related to each other and are investigated separately by the Detective Department.
