Sint Maarten. Man stabbed seriously during fight
At approximately midnight of Sunday January 26th a Philipsburg police patrol was sent to Madrid drive in Dutch Quarter to investigate a case involving very loud music coming from a bar in that neighborhood.
On the arrival of the patrol they encountered a very large crowd of persons in front and in the surrounding area of the bar in question, where a so-called “passa-passa” dance was going on. The patrol also noticed a commotion going on in front of the bar and that a fight between several persons had broken out.
Two of the persons involved in the fight were seen with a knife in their hand. The situation had become very uncontrollable because of the public getting involved with commotion.
The patrol immediately called for back-up. A patrol from the Simpson Bay area and detectives were sent to assist. Before the arrival of back-up on the scene and seeing how dangerous and uncontrollable the situation had become, the patrol was forced, for their safety and safety of others, to fire two warning shots in the air.
This caused the crowd to disperse allowing the patrol to better control the situation. This is when they learnt that during the fight a man (22) had been seriously stabbed several times in his upper body and back, causing him to loose consciousness several times.
The paramedics were immediately informed of the situation. Shortly after the police back-up and paramedics arrived on the scene. The victim was immediately attended to by paramedics and transported in very serious condition to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment.
The crime scene was closed off for the Detectives and Forensic Department to conduct an investigation and collect evidence. The suspect in this case in the meanwhile fled the scene and no arrest in this case has been made as yet. The condition of the victim remains very serious and the investigation by Detectives is ongoing.
